Chennai – Perungudi
Started with a Donation from Swiss Friends
In 2007 with the generous help of a couple from Switzerland, the Community College was started in a part of Chennai called Kottivakkam. The place was rented from YMCA who have a large property there. It was just at the famous IT Highway in the South of Chennai. At first 2 courses were conducted under the recognition of Tamil Nadu Open University, the House Electrician course and Computer Applications course.
After a few years the Community College was moved to the suburban town Perungudi, where it is still today. At present, it is run in a rented building that belongs to the Gerizim Church. It is also very close to the IT Highway, just further South.
The only course now conducted in this Community College is Computer Applications. However, in future a course for Air-conditioning is being planned. The Computer training is very thorough and many students extend the training for a second year obtaining an Associate Degree in Computer Applications. It is still under Tamil Nadu Open University recognition and gives to many of the students great possibilities to get good jobs.
Life Coping Skills is taught here as in other IID Community Colleges, and it is an important key to get into good employment.
