The Industrial Training School at Pallavaram was the first training centre of IID (started in 1974) and has trained and equipped literally thousands of young men since. Many of the graduates have started their own workshops or businesses, whilst others joined various companies or continued their training with other institutes.
The fitters courses are for 2 years duration and are affiliated to NCVT Central Government. All the trainees receive proper training ‘from scratch’ and attend the examination through the Central Government. The fitter trainees are also given a Basic Computer Course training in addition to their regular training. To teach the trainees 10, Computers were donated by a well-wisher, which was a great help to the trainees.
The carpenters training of 2 years duration is affiliated to the State Government scheme of vocational training, called Industrial School Certificate. While the carpentry trainees are trained in their subjects they also get an opportunity to learn the production jobs in wood work as well as steel structural work. Outside orders such as for school furniture are taken which makes the boys aware of market demands and also fetches income to support those from a background unable to even raise the low nominal fees charged. Apart from this production, cots, bureaus, shelves stools and other orders on demand are made and sold.
All trainees are occasionally taken for industrial visits and companies visited usually assure to recruit all the trainees for their industry. The next steps towards this are 2 month internships at the end of their training period. Through this cooperation we’re able to achieve a 100% job placement rate.
STAFF The members of the staff are experienced and devoted to train with personal efforts on each student. Practical and theoretical subjects as well as communication skills, spoken English and life coping subjects are taught as regular subjects.
BOYS HOSTEL Our spacious compound with several workshops, open ground for outdoor activities and sports allowes us to accommodate up to 60 boys during their time of training with us at very low cost. Thus we’re able to welcome trainees from rural areas and provide a safe and adequate environment during their courses.
VISION AND GOAL:
We aim for each person, whether staff or student, to adopt sincerity with discipline and punctuality in their work. They are to respect each other and be a role model for their generation.
